Purpose and Charge The University Strategic Planning Committee is a sub-committee of the Executive Committee. Among its responsibilities are the continuous planning and review of areas of academic excellence. Its charge is: "to develop the University's strategic plan for the next five years. In that plan, there should be two broad areas addressed. First, the Committee should identify which academic areas will be ... developed into regionally and nationally competitive programs. Once that determination is made, then the Committee must identify what those programs need to become regionally or nationally competitive. Next, the Committee must identify those University-wide initiatives that contribute to and help sustain academic excellence. Those will include, for example, oversight of the Quality Enhancement Plan, admissions standards, retention strategies, an Honors College, faculty pay, tuition policies, and facilities."

The University of New Orleans Strategic Planning Committee oversees multiple university-wide efforts, including the process for Academic Excellence; academic program review, the enhancement of student learning and academic success; budget planning and development; and the university's five-year plan for capitol improvements. Activities

• University Mission Statement Revision
  In February 2004, the Committee was asked to revew and update the Mission Statement. After examination of mission statements of peer universities, a revision was presented to the Chancellor. It was approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors on June 4, 2004 (Item 9D4 in the minutes).
• Academic Excellence Plans
  Each year colleges with degree programs present plans and the Committee selects and recommends academic plans to the University Executive Committee and the Chancellor.
• Oversight of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
• Develop a new 5-year Strategic Plan for 2007-2012
  This new plan will update the 2005-2010 Strategic Plan to incorporate recovery initiatives and the realities of a post-Katrina environment.
